Kamerleden steunen Poolse homo’s

Your Excellency,
With much concern we took notice of the recent news on the possible banning of the Warszawa Parade for Equal Rights (Parada Równoœci) to be held in your city on the eleventh of June.
With this parade the organizers - the Campaign against Homophobia (Kampania Przeciw Homofobii), Lambda Warszawa, ILGCN Poland and the Foundation for Equal Rights (Fundacja Równoœci) - hope to support the fight for equal rights for lesbian women and gay men and the protection of European and international human rights in Polish society.
We are convinced that you are aware of the ban on discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation as stated in the European Treaty, and of the clauses on non discrimination and freedom of opinion, speech and assembly in such international treaties as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights. Therefore we are much surprised to hear of the possible ban on the Warszawa Parade for Equal Rights. We would appreciate learning of the reasons for a possible ban and what other possibilities you could provide the organizers of the Parade to successfully hold their demonstration.
We highly respect the democratic development of Poland - won by the sheer will of the Polish people to be free and which moved people all over the world. We can not imagine that a country with such a strong will to freedom and respect for the rights of the individual would deny the homosexual citizens of Poland the basic rights of freedom of opinion, speech and assembly.
We look forward to your prompt reply.
Yours faithfully,
Lousewies van der Laan, Member of Parliament, social liberal party D66
